National Institute of Science Education and Research has been established to promote and nurture excellence in education and research in basic sciences. NISER operates under the umbrella of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). The National Institute of Science Education and Research is dedicated to graduate education and research only. It offers a five-year integrated M.Sc. as well as Ph.D. degrees in pure and applied sciences. Students seeking admission to NISER will have to appear for National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) to be conducted jointly by NISER & UM-DAE-CBS in May at 37 centres in India. Qualification : 60% marks for general category and 55% for SC/ST/PD category in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in Class XII (or equivalent) examination, from any recognized Board in India. Those who are appearing for the 12th class Board exam are also eligible to apply.
Number of Seats and Reservation: There will be 60 seats in the academic year starting in August, with reservation of 18% for OBC, 15% for SC and 7.5% for ST Categories. An overall reservation of 3% will be applicable for Persons with Disability (PD), as per Government of India norms.
